Go to Links and PublicationsAiming High: Understanding the Educational Needs of Minority Ethnic Pupils in Mainly White Schools
The majority of teachers across the country may now expect to work with minority ethnic pupils at some point in their career. But in many schools, the proportion of minority ethnic pupils is minimal. Such schools are frequently known as 'mainly white' and the pupils often feel isolated. This guidance has been prepared to address this issue.
This guidance published in 2004, contains material to help the school workforce to understand the range of backgrounds and perspectives that are represented in the school population and offers advice on educational and social inclusion strategies for isolated pupils.
The guidance is available from the DCSF Distribution Centre. Please quote the reference DfES/0416/2004.
