Summary - this section provides links to the regulations for federation and the Department's supporting guidance. 

Amendments to the Federation and Collaboration Regulations

From September 2009 amendments to the School Organisation and Governance (Federations) (England) Regulations 2007 come into effect.
 
The following requirements are being introduced in the School Organisation and Governance (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2009:

  1. Governing bodies proposing to federate must publish their proposals and send a copy to the Secretary of State within one week of publication via federations.mailbox@dcsf.gsi.gov.uk 
     
  2. Governing bodies must notify the Secretary of State of their decision on the proposals via federations.mailbox@dcsf.gsi.gov.uk  
     
  3. Governing bodies must notify the Secretary of State of their decision to leave a federation or when a federation dissolves via the federations.mailbox@dcsf.gsi.gov.uk.
