Learning research skills assessment criteria
Level 1
The student needs help from staff or other students to:
- locate and identify suitable resources
- decide what information is needed
- detect bias or inaccuracy in the information provided
- stops gathering information when some copies/prints of information is found.
Level 2
The student:
- looks for information in the Learning Resource Centre
- when necessary, asks for help from staff or other students
- identifies key words
- shows a basic knowledge of resource organisation
- gathers information systematically from a variety of ICT/print-based resources
- with help, judges appropriateness and relevance of resource
- selects and retrieves information relevant to task
- stops gathering when a quantity of relevant information is identified.
Level 3
Student can:
- select and judge resources, detecting bias and inaccuracy
- stop gathering information when a sufficient amount is collected
- organise information relevant to audience and purpose
- record information clearly and accurately in own words
- analyse and interpret information collected, and formulate questions for any resource
- present information gathered in an appropriate format
- communicate effectively.
