Transition and progression within Key Stage 3

This leaflet is intended to support planning for effective transition within a secondary school. Headteachers, senior leaders and subject leaders will find it useful in reviewing current practice and further developing transition arrangements.

It can be used alongside the Strategy publication Curriculum continuity – Effective transfer between primary and secondary schools (DCSF 0116-2004 G), which focuses more specifically on curriculum transfer between primary and secondary schools. The principles embodied in that guidance can also be applied to transition within a key stage.
