Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) Induction Training for Learning Mentors
A CWDC endorsed induction training programme for newly appointed Learning Mentors is provided centrally for local delivery. Details can be found here.
The programme consists of five core modules (designed to be delivered as part of integrated induction training for the broader children's workforce) and two Learning Mentor role specific modules. This model has broader application to other children’s workforce practitioners operating at a similar level.
National accredited qualifications for Learning Mentors
A qualifications framework drawn from the National Occupational Standards for Learning, Development and Support Services (NOS LDSS) is also in place. This has led to the provision of National Vocational Qualifications at levels 3 and 4, and Foundation Degrees provision. More information on accredited qualifications can be found here.
Other training
Local areas and employers provide a range of addtional and ongoing training for learning mentors, reflecting individual and group needs, and the priorities of local strategies and provision, including training identified and provided through local area Children's Workforce development programmes.
It is recommended that learning mentors are intergated into area training and support provision.
Pre entry training
National recognised pre entry training is not provided, though local providers may run courses relevant to the needs of aspiring learning mentors. Please check out your local colleges and learning providers for more information. These would include level 1 or 2 mentoring courses, educational coaching and related areas such as counselling and guidance. |
