CWDC endorsed Induction Training for Learning Mentors, and other roles within the CWDC footprint, April 2007+

Including generic induction training for children's workforce practitioners within the CWDC footprint

This training replaces previous initial training provision, and is available from April 2007.  It is compliant with the children's workforce common core of skills and knowledge in relation to induction/initial training needs, and supports employers in addressing the requirements of CWDC's induction standards for the children's workforce.

A letter outlining the background and expectations around this training, with annexes explaining protocols for accessing the programme, materials, support and funding can be viewed here and at the bottom of this page.

Details of current briefing events are downloadable at the bottom of this page.  The evaluation report relating to the piloting of this approach and materials is also downloadable at the bottom of this page.

Purpose

The programme is designed to support newly appointed Learning Mentors in the early stages of their role, building on local induction processes.  It has been developed centrally, drawing on past provision and the experiences of learning mentor programmes across the country.

Structure

The training programme is provided centrally for local delivery and consists of five core modules (designed to be delivered as part of integrated induction training for the broader children’s workforce) and two Learning Mentor role specific modules (others are in development, though local provision may also meet needs). This model has broader application to other children’s workforce practitioners operating at a similar level, and has CWDC endorsement in relation to this.

Materials to support the programme are available centrally, and will soon be downloadable from this site.  They consist of practitioner handbooks, trainer notes and powerpoint slides to support delivery.

Accessing materials

Practitioner handbooks are available to order (£10 per set of seven), whilst learner mentor role specific modules are available free.  The handbooks, trainer notes, slides and a range of supporting documents are available as free downloads.

Handbooks can be ordered here.  Ordering and the £10 per set cost includes free delivery to anywhere in England.  Please follow the instructions to set up your order and delivery dates.

Accessing support

Direct support can be provided through CWDC's Induction Field Training Team (FTT).  Support will be based on local needs and availability, but can include the following:

  • Support and guidance regarding planning the delivery of the programme
  • Brokering observation of practice in other areas
  • Brokering peer support from other areas
  • Examples of approaches developed elsewhere
  • Trainer briefings and overview of the programme
  • Strategic officer briefings and developmental support
  • Other support relating to local need.

FTT support does not involve delivery of training.

Please complete this proforma if you would like to access support in relation to the implementation of the CWDC Induction Training programme (level 3/4 for children's workforce staff).

Briefing sessions are taking place from the beginning of March, 2007, please see the downloadable document below for information including the booking form.

Funding for Learning Mentor provision will largely remain the same, with similar mechanisms for accessing materials and support being provided by CWDC.  More details will follow soon.  Outstanding LEP portfolios from this year's activity will be monitored through CWDC provision.
