The national context
This section is designed to do three things.
- It provides background knowledge on the current national context.
- It can be used to give specific guidance or background knowledge to the staff you are working with.
- It can be used as a presentation to set the context and give an overview of the national context, perhaps at the beginning of a staff meeting.
The intention is that you start with whichever section will be most useful to you. It is also possible to put two or more of the presentations together to make a longer input.
Running through all of the presentation subjects, and any input you do, should be the following main themes.
- Quality teaching and personalised learning come from an inclusive approach to classroom practice where the needs and achievements of all children, whatever their starting points, are taken into account.
- The wave model of intervention starts from the premise that Wave 1 is the effective inclusion of all children in high quality learning and teaching. This should be the starting point for any school reviewing their provision.
- High expectations of children and the progress they will make are always appropriate, as is an expectation that every young person's needs will be assessed and their talents developed through appropriate and diverse teaching strategies.
