Knowledge about speaking and listening

In addition to you and your teachers knowing about and employing a range of strategies when teaching speaking and listening, it can also be helpful to know and share the terminology and grammar of speaking and listening (see Unit 2 Teaching and assessing speaking and listening, the section on grammar of speaking and listening). This can help pupils to consider what makes for effective speaking and listening in a range of contexts.

Ask yourself, which teachers:

  • know the terminology and grammar of speaking and listening?
  • use the terminology and grammar of speaking and listening in the classroom?

As before, use your Speaking and listening review sheet to record any elements that you think need developing or improving.
