Monitoring

As subject leader or teacher responsible for speaking and listening, you may find it useful to check progress in speaking and listening.

You could:

  • devise a programme of lesson observations to monitor the implementation of schemes of work, teaching strategies, the range of activities and consistency across the classes
  • conduct regular discussion with pupils about their progress and their perceptions about how their needs are met
  • ensure that speaking and listening is a regular discussion item on the agenda for department meetings
  • check the schemes of work to ensure that the curricular targets for speaking and listening are being met
