Jot down the features that you think make these pupils successful in terms of speaking and listening. Compare your notes with those of a colleague and agree a list of the features of pupils who are successful speakers and listeners, and identify some pupils you teach who exhibit some of those features.

  • Consider using the video clip with an appropriate class as a way of launching a discussion on effective speaking and listening
  • Show the video clip to one of your classes.  Use the clip to introduce a consideration of the 'golden rules' for effective work in speaking and listening
