Modelling with Video Resources
Using video examples with pupils can give them a very clear idea of the approach to speaking and listening activities you are expecting them to adopt in their own work. Sharing video examples made in the school is perhaps the most effective way of achieving this and many schools have used video cameras to provide such models.
The first example below from School C shows a teacher using a commercial video to model interviewing. The second example from School B is of a teacher talking about other broadcast and video materials that could be useful in this context.
School C, Year 9 - Modelling (00:58)
You can watch the video via 56k modem or slow (100kbps) / medium (256 kbps) / fast (400kbps) / very fast (800kbps) broadband connections, or as a Flash video for which you will need to have the flash plugin.
School B, Year 10 - Teacher Modelling (00:27)
You can watch the video via 56k modem or slow (100kbps) / medium (256 kbps) / fast (400kbps) / very fast (800kbps) broadband connections, or as a Flash video for which you will need to have the flash plugin.
Activity
View the video clips and then with a colleague consider which of the video clips you have already looked at on this DVD could provide you with useful models to use with some of the classes you teach. Alternatively you could explore any of the video clips in this resource with a similar view in mind.
