Assessment focuses and progression in speaking and listening
QCA draft assessment focuses (AFs) for speaking and listening
QCA are in the process of developing an equivalent set of assessment focuses for speaking and listening and on piloting their use in extending APP approaches to speaking and listening. The SNS will make this available to schools as soon as it is ready. In the meantime, QCA has agreed to make the draft assessment focuses available here. Click here for a table showing some of the links between the AFs and their relationship to the areas of focus in the Speaking and Listening improvement matrix.

Activity
With a colleague, use these draft AFs and the Speaking and Listening improvement matrix to help you review your scheme of work and medium term planning for a specific year group. Judge how far it currently covers the range of teaching objectives in the framework and provides a broad range of opportunities to track pupils' progress in speaking and listening. Identify any significant gaps in either teaching or assessment of speaking and listening to discuss further with colleagues. Use the speaking and listening sections of the Key Objectives Banks for Years 7, 8 and 9 to help you consider how to strengthen any areas identified.
