Functional skills standards

The Functional Skills standards will be piloted from September 2007 and you can view the standards for speaking and listening on the QCA website.

The report contains the current draft of the standards and an indication of the timeline for implementation. The materials and teaching approaches on this DVD ROM will support the Functional Skills standards for speaking and listening.

It will be important for departments to track pupils' progress in relation to these skills throughout Key Stage 3 in preparation for the assessment of Functional Skills in Key Stage 4. As you work on strengthening your teaching and assessment of speaking and listening 11-16, your department may wish to review where and how effectively pupils are taught and assessed in relation to the functional skills standards for speaking and listening.
