Question 7

What do I know and want to know about my colleagues CPD needs?  And how can research help us refine this knowledge?  A second activity

This second research task will allow you to engage in research at three different levels, depending on your interest and the time you have available. It will also answer in more detail a question that will help you to ensure that CPD support in your schools is appropriately differentiated.

If you are willing to feed back the results of your research activities, we will collate, analyse and publish an overview of the outcomes on this web site so that you can compare your own school's results with those of others.

Even if you prefer not to feed back we believe the activity itself will help you to discover more about your colleagues' attitudes to CPD and use of evidence in practice. We have suggested a range of appropriate research tools for each level of activity.

You can find out about colleagues' needs though the range of practical research tools including a questionnaire, focus group and peer interview framework. At the bottom of this page you can download a sample questionnaire that you are welcome to use or adapt for use with your colleagues, and some hypotheses for testing in a focus group or in interviews.

The aim of the enquiry is to discover from your staff:
a) What percentage of staff who have been involved in CPD activities have changed their practice?
b) How did they change their practice?
c) Why did they change their practice?
d) How did they know they had changed their practice for the better?

If you are willing to contribute to the collation of information nationally so that you can 'benchmark' your school’s needs against wider patterns please could you return the results of your research, with:

  • a brief  (50 word max) description of your school; and
  • the number of people who filled in the questionnaires;
  • a note of whether they were teachers or having support assistants; and
  • the number of staff in total
