All parents irrespective of language, background or culture must be consulted about the agreement.
The guidance states that:
Schools may wish to consider having a separate meeting for parents who have English as an additional language, with interpreters present.
The following ideas could also be explored:
- Could the support of religious leaders be sought for the agreement?
- What about holding consultation meetings in local community centres, with the support of translators?
- Could pupils be used to consult their parents? For example, a homework task might be to discuss issues relating to the agreement. The outcomes of these discussions could be fed back to the class/form tutor.
