Governors

Governors can contribute to the challenge of making the agreement work in a number of ways. For example, by:

  • ensuring that a management or quality control system is in place to encourage consistent and positive use of the agreement by all parties. This might include an on-going whole-school monitoring system that could contribute to the required review of the agreement

  • having a named person on the governing body to be responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of the agreement and the development of the school's partnership work with parents. This should be underpinned by a policy on partnership with parents, and there should be a member of staff to co-ordinate the work.
Leicester City LEA organised a training course for governors on monitoring home-school agreements.
  • making the agreement and correspondence related to it a standing agenda item at governors' meetings. This regular notification would make governors aware of the types and frequencies of issues being raised in relation to the agreement, to give them a picture of how the agreement is working in practice

  • featuring the agreement, and examples of its successful use, in the governors' annual report to parents, and discussing it at the governors' annual meeting.
