CLLD programme

The Communication, Language and Literacy Development (CLLD) programme was developed to implement the recommendations of Sir Jim Rose's independent review of the teaching of early reading (the Rose Review). The CLLD programme builds greater quality and capacity in the teaching of early literacy through developing work on speaking and listening, strengthening leadership and management of early literacy and supporting all schools and settings with phonics and early reading.

The CLLD website provides guidance for all those involved in early literacy development to ensure all children experience best practice in the teaching of early reading and phonics aligned to the recommendations of the Rose Review.

The British Educational Suppliers' Association and The Publishers Association have produced a Directory of Resources to promote speaking and listening in the Early Years Foundation Stage. The directory provides teachers and practitioners with an indicative list of published resources suitable for developing young children's speaking and listening skills in line with the principles of the EYFS and in response to the Independent Review of the Teaching of Early Reading.

The directory is available here.
