Learning and teaching in the primary years
Excellence and Enjoyment: Learning and teaching in the primary years consists of
- six continuing professional development units
- three videos
- a school self evaluation grid on assessment for learning
 The six units are structured around three key themes with two units for each theme. These are:
Planning and assessment for learning Designing opportunities for learning Assessment for learning
Creating a learning culture The conditions for learning Classroom community, collaborative and personalised learning
Understanding how learning develops Learning to learn: progression in key aspects of learning Learning to learn: key aspects of learning across the curriculum
Schools are encouraged to select from the units, those materials that support their school development plans and use these as the starting points for whole school enquiries. The approach suggested is interactive and is designed to encourage teachers and practitioners to enquire together - both within school and with other schools - in staff meetings and through observation and reflection within the classroom.

Excellence and Enjoyment: Learning and teaching in the primary years: CDROM
This CDROM contains the Excellence and Enjoyment: Learning and teaching in the primary years materials. It is designed to support school based professional development by providing easy access to the sections of the materials that are most relevant to your school development plans.
This CDROM also contains:
- video clips to accompany each learning and teaching unit, (NB: These video clips give brief sample extracts of some of video materials that accompany the boxed, paper-based set of the materials. To view the full videos you will need to order the paper-based version of Excellence and Enjoyment: Learning and teaching in the primary years );
- additional readings and resources;
- direct links to relevant websites;
- a school self-evaluation grid for assessment for learning and self-evaluation prompts on other aspects of teaching and learning which can be used to highlight relevant materials.
