Literacy

The literacy area of the Primary Framework contains a range of resources and materials to support the development, planning and teaching of all aspects of literacy.

Steps to help Year 6 children

The Steps to help Year 6 children resources support you in affirming your practice in helping every Year 6 child succeed in the statutory tests. It includes support for maintaining focused, high-quality teaching, reviewing children's strengths and weaknesses and analysing the approaches to teaching and learning for children working at level borderlines.

New Key Stage 1 text-based units

There are now three additional text-based units available on the site for Key Stage 1. These units are based on resources from the RSPCA , and focus on literacy and animal welfare issues using film, photo stories and images to engage children. There are two units for Year 1 - A day in the life of an RSPCA inspector and The story of Jake and Bones. In addition there is a new Year 2 unit called Really looking which is based on poetry.

Improving writing

There are new materials in the Continuing professional development (CPD) section of the Primary Framework website to support the development of writing. In this new section there are materials to support in-school CPD, develop approaches to planning for writing and essential guidance for teachers on planning and teaching guided writing sessions. This now includes a set of frequently asked questions on guided writing with relevant answers.
