Progress from picture to text and then from text to text. Play the Newspaper Challenge: children have access to language newspapers and magazines in the classroom. They each make a poster by finding a variety of texts, cutting them out and sticking them on to the poster. Read familiar phrases and short sentences; decide what they are about and link them to a particular theme which the class has studied. Use ICT resources to create collage/simple story board/poster. Help to create a wall display showing familiar pictures, and make labels.
