What is it?
The file contains the course materials for the induction course for teaching assistants in primary schools. These are designed to be used during the teaching assistant training sessions (typically for full days of training), but will also be useful as on-the-job reference materials for teaching assistants.
Course participants are not required to read all the materials before the start of the course, but should have done the preparatory activities. The first sections of the file contain guidance related to professional development, which may be of personal use to the newly qualified teaching assistant. For example, there are tips about how to go about finding out more about the school you will be working in, and a section for outlining your previous experience or qualifications.
Also included in the file are modules for mathematics and literacy, with separate sections for those teaching assistants who will be working in Reception classes. The literacy materials have been designed to complement the National Literacy Strategy. There are sections related to supporting pupils with SEN, and an optional module for teaching assistants who will be working in schools which have English as and Additional Language (EAL).
There is a section for behaviour management, and there is also a notebook, which teaching assistants can use to keep track of their progress and to plan their work. This product is currently only available for downloading.
