What is it?

Helping children to achieve higher standards in English and specifically in writing and to make the progress of which they are capable requires attention to key priorities. This leaflet:

  • captures the key priorities for schools to continue to raise standards in writing;
  • outlines the Primary Leadership Programme (PLP), Intensifying Support Programme (ISP) and Primary Strategy Learning Network (PSLN) all designed to support schools in raising standards in English and mathematics;
  • summaries the strategies employed by schools who are effective at reducing the gender gap in writing;
  • reiterates what schools and teachers should expect from children at each key stage.
