What is it?

Target setting, both for curriculum and for individual or groups of pupils, helps to focus and prioritise teaching. Target statements for reading sets out an illustrative set of targets for each year from YR to Y6 in different aspects of reading. The targets focus on the key aspects of reading that need to be addressed to raise standards. This document summaries objectives in the NLS Framework for teaching, it should not be seen as a substitute for it.
