What is it?
The guidance in this file is intended to support schools with the development of strategies to promote inclusive teaching and to raise the attainment of pupils learning EAL. The materials are located within the principles of inclusion set out in the National Curriculum 2000 and developed from the guidance included in Section 4 of the NLS Framework for teaching. Examples of practice from a range of contexts are included in the file and the accompanying video and it is intended that schools, LEAs and EMAG services should select from and tailor the materials to local circumstances.
Six modules of training are provided, each based upon successful approaches to inclusion.
- Module 1 Raising the attainment of minority ethnic pupils: the management of Literacy at school level
- Module 2 Whole class teaching
- Module 3 Effective use of additional adults
- Module 4 Guided and supported group work
- Module 5 New arrivals and isolated learners
- Module 6 Use of first language in the literacy hour
