What is it?
The DfEE commissioned a respected team of researchers from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto, to conduct an independent evaluation of the National Literacy and Numeracy Strategies (NLNS).
This evaluation focuses on the implementation and the impact of the NLNS, with three key areas: obstacles or barriers to implementation; successes and weaknesses; and the emerging infrastructure, addressed from the perspective of four levels of the education system: national, LEA, school and classroom.
This work supplements the evaluation being carries out by OFSTED whose focus is the impact of the two strategies on the teaching and learning of English and mathematics in the primary phase.
