| Audience: |
Key Stage 2 teachers |
| Date of issue: |
Sep. 2003 |
What is it?
This course is an extension to, and builds on, the National Numeracy Strategy’s five-day course. It consists of three taught days, with tasks to carry out at school before the course and in the two intermediate days. It aims to help teachers to:
- teach pupils to understand, use and apply mental and written methods of division;
- teach the three strands of using and applying mathematics more effectively;
- provide some early algebraic activities from which later work in formal algebra can develop;
- use day-to-day assessment to inform teaching and enhance pupils’ progress;
- use ICT more effectively in teaching.
