Improving reading day 1

This CPD theme is aimed specifically at schools that wish to address the teaching of reading across the school. It is designed to allow the tailoring of the materials to cover Year 1, Year 3 and Year 5 or to combine these age ranges and cover reading across the primary age range. The CPD materials are organised into three sections:

  • CPD outlines - which contain CPD guidance or notes for Local Authorities and schools on improving reading and which could be used as a full day’s training, or broken into smaller sessions for delivery over time. This section also contains the outline for a school-based Professional Development Meeting linked to the CPD.
  • PowerPoints/presentation - which contain the presentation slides to support the delivery of the CPD outline and also contain the presentations for school-based Professional Development Meetings (PDMs).
  • Handouts/resources - which contain any related materials or linked handouts from the CPD outlines needed to run the CPD sessions or PDMs. There are also additional support materials for whole school/ community CPD on wider reading. These materials link to the new text-based literacy units in year 5 and 6, accessible from either year 5 or year 6 planning areas of the site and can be accessed under the heading of support materials on the left hand side of the screen.
