The Interactive Planning Tool is set by default to assume a direct connection to the internet. The settings need to be changed if you use a proxy server to connect to the internet. If you are able to browse the internet, this is something you will be able to fix yourself by checking the internet connection settings in your browser and ensuring that the planning tool is configured with the same setting.
Instructions on how to check your internet connection settings and configure the planning tool using those settings can be found here.
Downloading EXE files can be prevented by some security or network settings. To avoid any security warnings you should download the compressed ZIP file for your operating system. More information is available on the alternative download page.
It is not possible to transfer your collected content to another computer. You can reuse a plan created on another computer, but you will need to populate your Content collected column on each computer you use.
The interactive planning tool is only supported on Windows 2000 and above. It will not run on Windows 98.
With Version 2 of the planning tool, Word 2000 did not save all the content as expected. This issue has been addressed in Version 3 of the planning tool which is now available on the website.
Certain advanced features of Word are not supported in the planning tool as they are not compatible with web-based code. These features should be avoided. They include:
This issue has been addressed in version 3 of the planning tool. Any template that is loaded as landscape will save as landscape. When using a new blank template it will default to portrait. You can change the page orientation by navigating within the Word menu to the page settings and changing the orientation by following these steps:
File > Page Setup > Margins > Orientation.
Links in the content collected and Content Manager areas are not active. This is by design to prevent additional tabs being opened within the planning tool. To open a resource within the planning tool you can:
You can access the DVD from the planning tool by entering the following into the address bar in the planning tool: file:///D:/primaryframework/www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/primaryframeworks/ (or file:///D:/primaryframeworks/ if using the first release of the DVD). Copy this address and paste it into the address bar on the browser tab on the planning tool. You will need to substitute the 'D' after file:/// with the drive letter of your DVD drive if it is anything other than D.

From version 3 the version is displayed in the title of the Welcome page. If you don't see a version number displayed on the Welcome page, you have an earlier version of the planning tool and are strongly advised to download and install the latest version.
This happens when a Word style like Heading 1 (large text) has been changed to look like normal text. In this example the base font remains Heading 1 and displays as such when it is loaded into the planning tool.
To fix this you can change the large text in your plan in the planning tool by selecting the font and font size so that it displays correctly. However, if you are planning to use the template on a regular basis it would be better to tidy up the template so that it loads correctly each time.
To fix your template:
Yes. In this situation we recommend you download the Network version of the planning tool and extract the files to a suitable location on your hard drive. Create a shortcut to the PlanningTool.exe file that is found in the extracted FrameworkApp folder. By double-clicking on the shortcut you will launch the planning tool. There is no visible indication that the planning tool is loading other than the occasional hourglass and it can take some time to load when run for the first time.
Yes, to load your template or save your plan the planning tool relies on some of the components in Word. To avoid conflicts the Word converter closes any open Word documents. If there are unsaved changes you will be prompted to save. No files will be closed without giving you the option to save first.
If block dragging is enabled place your cursor (click) at the point in your plan where you want the content be copied to before you drag any content into your plan. This defines the target location for the dragged clipping. Left click on the clipping and drag it to the plan. It will automatically drop into on the place where you positioned your cursor.
If block dragging is not enabled, you can drop the selected content at the cursor position.
