The planning structure for each year is organized into five blocks. Each block comprises 3 units of work that need to be planned over the year - in 3 blocks each unit covers 2 weeks of work, in two blocks each unit covers 3 weeks.
This is how to access a block:
- Using the horizontal menu, select Mathematics [View]
- Using the Left hand menu, select Planning [View]
- Select a Year [View]. The list of blocks appears. The block titles are:
- A. Counting, partitioning and calculating
- B. Securing number facts, understanding shape
- C. Handling data and measures
- D. Calculating, measuring and understanding shape
- E. Securing number facts, relationships and calculating
- Note: Whilst the title of each block summarises the areas of mathematics it focuses on, they all have Using and Applying built into them.
- Select a Block [View]. At the top of the page a diagram shows the key areas of mathematics that are developed in the block.
- You might find it useful to use the associated links to look at the corresponding block in the year above and the year below. This will help you track learning forwards and backwards and so help with differentiation. The associated links are found on the right hand side of the screen.
- A table provides an overview of the objectives covered in the block and in which units of work they appear.
- Select Speaking and listening [View]
- A table identifies speaking and listening objectives that may be developed in units within this block.
- Select Mathematics in science [View]
- A table identifies opportunities to apply mathematics within science. References to the QCA Scheme of Work for Science are included.
- Select Key aspects of learning [View]
- A table highlights the key aspects of learning which are emphasised within this block.
- Select Vocabulary [View]
- This page shows the range of vocabulary children should be encouraged to use and understand over the year while you are teaching this block.
- Select Prior learning [View]
- This page lists the prerequisite learning required by the block. By using this information you can review children's understanding at the beginning of a unit of work.
- This assessment information will help you to identify any gaps in learning, and consider both the appropriate pitch of the learning and differentiation that needs to take place.
- Select Block C Resources [View]
- This page contains resources to support the teaching of the block. They can be printed for future reference and use. More specific resources are also available at unit level
