Exploring a unit of work

Each block comprises three units of work of two or three weeks duration.

This is how to access a unit:

  1. Using the horizontal menu, select Mathematics [View]
  2. Using the Left hand menu, select Planning [View]
  3. Select a Year [View]
  4. Select a Block [View]
  5. Select a Unit [View]
    • A table displays the objectives that inform the content and pitch of the work in the unit. These objectives may appear in more than one unit and in another block to secure progression in learning. It also contains learning outcomes you may wish to share with the children
    • Next to each objective you will find some suggested assessment for learning questions and activities such as these throughout the unit will help you assess the children's depth of understanding and identify possible misconceptions.
    • Below the table you will find more detail in the 'Learning overview' This helps exemplify the objectives, illustrates how using and applying can be integrated into the unit and provides example of the learning experience children might encounter during the two or three week unit of work. This, along with the prior learning section, will help you begin to form an outline plan for this unit of work.
    • At the foot of the page there are resource links to existing published material.
    • You might find it useful to use the associated links to look at the corresponding unit in the year above and the year below. This will help you track learning forwards and backwards and so help with differentiation.

    • Here you can find resources, such as interactive whiteboard files, interactive teaching programs and spreadsheets, to support the teaching of the specific unit.
