Year Groups
Literacy: by year
The objectives for literacy are organised by year and by strand*. The year groups covered are from Foundation Stage to Year 6, with progression into Year 7. The Early Learning Goals have been incorporated into the Foundation Stage objectives, with some additional objectives to support transition from the end of Foundation Stage into Year 1. The objectives under Year 6 progression into Year 7 are in the main pitched around Level 5 to help plan appropriately for children working at level 4 or 5 and to support transition from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3. Selecting a year group will take you to the objectives for a particular year group. These objectives reflect end of year expectations. They can be used to support planning to ensure that children make the expected progress over the year. By visiting the year group before and after the 'target' year group, teachers can see the intended progression in each of the strands of objectives across more than one year.
By selecting a strand on the left you can view the objectives for the year group you have selected.
* Note: There is no Strand 5 for Year groups 3-6. This strand (Word recognition: decoding (reading) and encoding (spelling)) only covers objectives from Foundation Stage to the end of Key Stage 1 since the expectation is that, for the majority of children, these learning objectives will have been covered by the end of Year 2.
