Phase 1

Talk about a particular author and the type of books that author writes; express a personal response and make independent choices about their own reading (questioning, teacher observation).

Phase 2

Answer questions about a character based on evidence from the text and imaginative ideas (marking, questioning)

Phase 3

Make a valid contribution to a collaborative group activity, listen to others and reach agreement within the group (teacher observation, self-assessment).

Phase 4

Write a complete story about a familiar character; write in the third person and past tense; include descriptions of characters and setting and try writing some dialogue (marking, self-assessment, peer assessment).
