The unit has four phases, with oral or written outcomes and assessment opportunities at regular intervals.
Phase 1 will introduce recount text to Year 4 children and act as revision for pupils in Years 5 and 6.
The unit provides opportunities for extracurricular links, e.g. history and geography.
Read and compare different examples of recount texts. Discuss structure and content. Discuss and compose own recount and proofread it.
Discuss types of questions asked to elicit information in a video clip. Write questions to use in hot-seating activity. Evaluate effectiveness of the questions asked.
Discuss recording of responses from an interview. Model note-taking. Compare and discuss a range of recounts from different media. Evaluate quality of information in different texts.
Discuss writing task, organising roles and responsibilities within groups. Children conduct interviews and record information. Present reports as a team. Children plan and write individual reports in a range of different forms.
