For further information, see the booklet Progression in key aspects of learning,(Ref: 0524-2004), from Learning and teaching in the primary years.

Enquiry

Children will investigate and ask questions of film to develop their understanding. They will plan and present their own interpretations of film using different modes of communication.

Creative thinking

Children will generate and extend imaginative ideas, to respond to and interpret ideas. They will suggest hypotheses, responding imaginatively through drama and talk, making connections and understanding relationships to create a written outcome.

Information processing

Children will identify relevant information and explore patterns from a range of modes and use this to write their own versions of a visual text.

Reasoning

Children will draw inferences and make deductions to clarify, extend and follow up ideas and conclusions in their oral and written work.

Evaluation

Children will present information orally, through drama and in writing. They will make judgements and justify their views and opinions, drawing on sources to support their evaluations. Children will discuss success criteria, give feedback to others and judge the effectiveness of their own work.

Communication

Children will develop their skills to reflect critically on what they have seen. They will develop their ability to present a narrative through drama, orally and in writing, and reflect critically on their own and others' work.

Empathy

In discussing, writing and working in role, children will develop their skills to recognise and understand the perspectives of other people. They will develop their ability to identify triggers or causes of other people's emotions and actions.
