Mathematics
In the mathematics area of the Primary Framework you will find a range of resources and materials to support the development, planning and teaching of all aspects of mathematics. The framework is regularly updated and you can look out for new materials or resources you may have missed in the Have you seen? area.
The mathematics area is structured into five sections outlined below:
Steps to help Year 6 children
The Steps to help Year 6 children resources support you in affirming your practice in helping every Year 6 child succeed in the statutory tests. It includes support for maintaining focused, high-quality teaching, reviewing children's strengths and weaknesses and analysing the approaches to teaching and learning for children working at level borderlines.
Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy (PSRN)
This section provides overviews of learning and objectives to help practitioners in developing children's understanding of problem solving, reasoning and numeracy in a broad range of contexts in which they can explore, enjoy, learn, practise and talk about their developing understanding.
Guidance papers
These cover key aspects of teaching and learning in mathematics such as the use of calculators and oral and mental work. They could be used as discussion prompts to develop policy and practice in the school.
Learning objectives
To simplify the structure of the objectives, seven strands of learning in mathematics are identified. The objectives can be navigated by strand or by year group to look at the range and progression in learning.
Assessment
This updated section outlines day-to-day, periodic and transitional assessment and contains links to key guidance including 'Assessing pupils' progress' materials.
Planning
This section includes a wide variety of resources and guidance for planning each of the five blocks throughout the primary age-range. At each level, the Resources link provides downloads for use within planning, teaching and learning.
