Dear colleagues,
As the name for this site implies, it has been developed to meet the needs of non academic research users (teachers, governors, heads, parents): to provide a stepping stone between their practical problems and concerns and the resources provided through research by the academic community.
The site aims to provide interactive, non linear summaries of recent research reports - mainly those published in research journals.
Although the site has been developed to meet the needs of non researchers we nonetheless welcome comments and suggestions from researchers. In particular we would like, over time, to be able to populate the site with material that has been prepared in partnership with the researchers.
At present we are attempting to build clusters of related research digests to tackle topics that we know are of concern to users. Current priorities are numeracy and literacy, thinking skills and assessment, inclusion, gender and pupil grouping and classroom organisation but these will be extended to other priorities identified by site users and other consultation groups as the site develops. If you believe that some of your recently published articles would work well in this format and are interested in preparing a first draft for our editorial team to translate into our website format, please email research.summaries@dcsf.gsi.gov.uk.
