Objectives

Children should learn:
  • to make use of choreographic principles when composing complex dances and to adapt their compositions to meet the needs of individuals

Activities

Outcomes

Children:
  • Ask pupils to compose small group dances for two to five dancers. Listen to them talking about their intentions.
  • Help pupils to analyse choreographic principles evident in professional exemplars and to use them in their own work. Teach them to develop their knowledge of choreographic form, eg narrative, collage, theme and variation, chance. Help them to use this knowledge to compose motifs and dances.
  • Teach pupils how to select and use performance skills, lighting and staging to present their dances.
  • Teach pupils how to organise a dance show.
  • compose material with imagination and sensitivity and improvise freely
  • select, adapt and structure movement material, demonstrating understanding of compositional form and accompaniment
  • select a range of choreographic principles appropriate for the dance idea and dancers
