In this unit children learn about the reasons for, and results of, exploration of
the world by people in the sixteenth century and its impact on sailors, settlers
and indigenous peoples. Children investigate in depth one of the explorers and
the problems associated with settlement. The framework can also be used to
investigate other explorers and their attempts at settlement and trade.
