Objectives

Children should learn:
  • that festivals are occasions for remembering particular events in religions

Activities

Outcomes

Children:
  • Choose a particular religious festival and ask questions about it. How is it different from a holiday? What is the story and the meaning of this festival?
  • Tell the story behind the festival, use video extracts, make life size cut-out characters, make masks and/or costumes.
  • recount the story linked to the festival
  • begin to understand its significance and symbolism for the believers

Points to note

  • In order to ensure progression of skills and variety of experience, different learning opportunities should be provided for different festivals.
