Unit 1: Using ICT

QCA

Activities

Section 1: Activity 1 (1)

  • Explain to the class that they are going to produce a multimedia presentation about themselves. Revise the process of making a presentation and suggest topic content. Pupils should have the opportunity to input simple graphics using digital cameras and scanners and to record sound for their presentation.
  • The presentation should ideally include links to other pages, but simple action buttons, eg to activate sound, would suffice.

Section 2: Activity 1 (2)

  • During the production of their multimedia presentation explain to pupils how to log on to their area of the network and how to save their work. Discuss the conventions of behaviour relating to respect for others' work, use of passwords, copying and plagiarism. Ask the pupils to save drafts of their work. This is also an opportunity to explain both the conventions for using equipment, eg printers, disks, and the responsible use of equipment, eg screen settings and use of the network.

Section 3: Activity 2

  • Ask the pupils to present their completed multimedia presentation to the class or a small group. Ensure that pupils print out and save a series of drafts. Show them how to annotate each draft, eg indicating why subsequent changes were made. Discuss ways of annotating printed output to show such things as sound content.
