Section 2: Important moments in the religious figure's life

Objectives

Children should learn:

why this person became the founder of one of the world's religions
about the events that led to the change in the way the person lived
to analyse and explain what change took place

		Children:
Start by looking at something from pupils' own experience that relates to the life of the religious figure, so they can understand motivation, eg an important moment in my life. Research the story of the religious figure from a number of sources, carefully noting reasons that led this person to be the founder of one of the world's religions, eg ask pupils to read a paragraph of text then sum up in a sentence the reason this person founded a religion. Pupils could produce a piece of visual work on some aspect of the lesson, to show they understand the story.		explain the reasons why this person is important to a world religion identify the reasons that led the figure to change the way they lived analyse the reasons for and the extent of the change that took place

Points to note

Pupils will need help in order to think about the nature of change and how this affected the world through the religious figure.
