Objectives

Children should learn:
  • that designers and manufacturers have to take into account resources, waste disposal and other environmental issues when planning production

Activities

Outcomes

Children:
  • Explain to the pupils that many manufacturing industries use huge quantities of raw materials/ingredients and resources, eg electricity, water, and also produce waste products. Ask the pupils what steps they think could be taken to make manufacturing more environmentally friendly, eg to reduce waste.
  • list three ways in which a manufacturer can make its manufacturing more environmentally friendly, eg reducing waste, reducing materials/ingredients used, reducing energy used, planning to use leftover ingredients
