To make best use of the learning objectives presented as part of this Framework, you need to have considered the different Components of a scheme of work and decided at which level you are working. In this way you can phase the implementation so that you move between the overview of the curriculum and the detail of a particular unit as part of your overall plan for reviewing and developing the scheme of work.
Use the screens to cut and paste selections of objectives into unit plans. Remember to include process and application objectives, tailoring them to suit the content of the lesson or unit. The learning objectives will always appear as a collection of three columns to emphasise the importance of looking back to build on prior learning and looking ahead to extend the challenge. Remember the year headings are 'nominal' – they represent a basic expectation of progress – you must choose the column appropriate to the needs of your pupils.
Note that the pitch of the objectives and expectations across the columns will support planning for progress across two levels in a key stage. The 'average' progression is from:
Key Stage 2 level 4 to Key Stage 3 level 6 to Key Stage 4 grade B.

Adjust planning to use objectives from other year columns. Aim for Inclusive teaching: incorporate challenges for higher achieving pupils and build in support for pupils who enter the key stage below level 4 or who have particular needs. Try to keep pupils on track towards end-of-year and end-of-key-stage targets by monitoring their progress closely using the Assessment criteria and respond to underperformance by routine and systematic Intervention.
