An approach to and support for planning is provided by the Secondary mathematics planning toolkit. The toolkit structure was introduced for Key Stage 4 in summer 2007 and has now been extended to include Key Stage 3. It comprises two handbooks and a simple structure of associated folders on a CD-ROM. Many of these resources are now linked within this Framework and objectives from the Framework are duplicated on the CD-ROM. The toolkit structure is offered as an option for subject leaders and teachers, so that they can adapt and use templates to organise unit plans and the scheme of work to suit their needs.
The use of the toolkit is explained in two handbooks which include guidance on departmental self-evaluation, leading to prioritisation of one or more aspects for development. Each section consists of a set of linked tasks, to help subject leaders to plan and implement a manageable development programme that involves the department working collaboratively.
