The renewed Frameworks establish:
- strands of development in each subject that describe progression in learning
- clear learning objectives to enable teachers to plan sequences of lessons that cluster objectives together into engaging, powerful learning experiences. These are set out from Year 7 to Year 11 and establish a minimum expectation for the progression in learning of most pupils. This starts at level 4 in Year 7 and extends to GCSE grade B in Year 11, with extension objectives that indicate the degree of additional learning for exceptional performance needed to achieve an A* grade at GCSE.
In electronic form they provide subject leaders and teachers with a practical, flexible means for:
- planning in the long, medium and short term
- evaluating current schemes of work and teaching sequences and adjusting them gradually in line with your plans to implement the new programme of study in a phased, manageable way
- using the Frameworks to suit your own circumstances and the needs of your pupils
- designing teaching approaches and learning opportunities in the context of whole-school curriculum planning
- tracking pupils' progress and providing intervention for those who struggle or stall
- making direct and explicit links to National Strategies guidance and resources so that you can consider these creatively at the point of evaluating schemes of work and planning teaching sequences.
