Pupils learn effectively in science when they are engaged, their curiosity is fired, they see the relevance of science to their own lives and this is underpinned by teachers who:
- develop quality first teaching using a range of interactive teaching strategies, in whole-class and small-group work, including demonstrating essential practical and technical skills
- use a range of appropriate pedagogical approaches in order to engage all pupils actively in tasks and activities that enable them to make good progress
- plan effective lessons that provide sufficient opportunities for pupils to build on their existing skills and scientific knowledge and make expected progress
- provide extra support including Wave 2 and Wave 3 intervention (67.71 KB) to ensure that more pupils make two levels of progress in a key stage
- create regular opportunities for pupils to:
- develop scientific language and mental and visualisation skills through oral work and modelling
- use and apply their understanding of key scientific ideas, either on their own or with others, with varying degrees of support
- reflect on their learning, consider the progress they are making and identify their next steps in learning.
