Gifted and Talented Education - Guidance on preventing underachievement: a focus on exceptionally able pupils

This booklet highlights the main issues to be discussed and addressed in preventing the underachievement of pupils with exceptional abilities.

It gives guidance, information and references for further study, and provides brief portraits of real pupils in this category, illustrating their needs and how schools are meeting these.

While intended primarily for senior and middle leaders and leading teachers for gifted and talented, it is a useful resource for all teachers and support staff. It provides suggestions for whole-staff development and governors' meetings. Parents/carers and pupil focus groups could also be engaged in discussion of the issues raised in this booklet.
