Improving English pedagogy through use of ICT - Blogs, Wikis and forums

Background

Now that so many schools have set up virtual learning environments (VLEs), English teachers have begun to look at how to use web technology to provide new ways to communicate with pupils.
Teachers and, in some cases, whole departments have started to set up blogs (Internet journals) and Wikis (computer software that allows users easily to create, edit and link web pages) that allow them to communicate with pupils outside school.

The teachers who set them up all wanted to enable pupils to engage in the free discussion of English topics with the purpose of encouraging them to become more reflective and independent. These websites all allow interaction and are available wherever the teacher or pupils have Internet access.
