Improving English pedagogy through use of ICT - Poetry podcasts
Background This approach was developed to enliven the teaching of poetry at GCSE and enable schools to share pupil-created revision materials. The teachers in two schools wanted to move away from 'teaching the poems' and give pupils more opportunities to be independent and creative in their poetry study. They also wanted to develop their pupils' speaking and listening skills by giving them a wider audience, so they decided to develop a unit of work during which pupils would create a series of sound files (podcasts) that would be hosted on a site accessible to both schools and by pupils at home.
