Extending assessment for learning

What we did

The department maintains close links with Turnford School history department. Until recently, sixth form teaching was shared. Both are foundation subjects pilot departments, and have pioneered formative assessment strategies for several years. As a result of the foundation subjects audit, it was decided to extend the work on assessment for learning.

Audit, planning and development

We used the opportunities provided by the foundation subjects strand of the Key Stage 3 National Strategy to evaluate our current practice and further develop assessment for learning within the department. We reviewed and rewrote our assessment policy and we are careful about planning to objectives. We then share these objectives with pupils to help them understand what they are aiming for. A copy of this policy is attached. (Click on the Order/Download button to download a copy of the school's policy document.) We have also produced a sheet for pupils to help them focus on the objectives and the extent to which these are addressed in their work.
